根據英國報章independent報導，英國學者研究出當代音樂是更嘈吵，節奏上更重覆；他們亦指出八十年代的流行曲是創意上的頂盛期。該研究團體更研製出state-of-the-art machine來學習流行曲的演算法﹐可以讀出那些流行曲能可成功進入銷量榜高位。

當然，此研究是針對英國音樂，與中文音樂並無太大關係。不過由九十年代開始尤其是香港流行曲的單元化基本上不用學者研究也看得出是倒模情歌當道，此才是香港樂壇了無創意的原因。
